Welcome to the UGEMI forum home page

This set of forums has been created by workers for workers as a common place to share experiences and opinions about what should be the ethical foundations of global workforce management and what instead are the many examples of unethical behaviour in this field. This is not a trade union nor a political party bulletin board: simply put, UGEMI is just a place where workers, employees and job seekers can meet and discuss in a free forum, to highlight and share problems and concerns about their working life in the globalized economy. Globalization introduced new ways of making business for multinational companies by extending the size of the labour pool available to cover their manufacturing needs and by breaking many bureaucratic barriers once limiting their workforce management flexibility. On one side this created opportunities for workers of the emerging markets to find better remunerated jobs quickly and often with no need for them to migrate abroad, but on the other end this is producing social costs falling solely on the workers class and the middle class, with no distinction between blue collars and white collars especially in the US and Europe. In many cases big corporations and companies take full advantage of regulations that allow them to offshore entire departments to countries where salaries are lower, this resulting in job losses right in those countries where their core business historically developed, putting at risk the main source of income of thousands of families that made their business become a reality as collaborators or customers for generations. Is this global workforce management “ethical” at all? Why is this happening so fast? How much is this changing our working life and affecting the relationship between employers and employees? Why do our governments allow this to happen to us apparently with no control? What about the working conditions of our counterparts in India, China and all other emerging markets: are the workers happy with their jobs in those countries? Are there any alternatives for managing the global workforce in a more balanced way by considering family needs not as limiting constraints for the maximization of corporate profits, but the family itself as the main resource for a country? What can we do to improve a situation that is clearly damaging our family life and compromising our children’s future? Company by company, case by case: the topics you will propose will help shed some light on what is happening to you and to all of us. UGEMI is a politically unbiased independent forum that receives no financial backup from any organization to drive discussions in a particular direction: you’ll be the driver and its administrators will not put any censorship to your contributions, provided that you stay on topic and that you don’t use a deliberately offensive language or any abusive words. Feel free to share your thoughts: this will help millions of other workers end employees worldwide! Please note if not already a member you need to register by clicking on the "Register" link (located below the UGEMI logo) in order to participate to any forum by adding new topics and by replying to existing posts.
